36 WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS

An Angel Says...never borrow from the future. If u worry about what may happen tomorrow & it doesn't, u worried in vain. If it does, u have to worry twice.

36 CHRISTIAN WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No, to projects that won't fit your time schedule, or they’ll compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. (Although one’s often not enough, two is often too much.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes/difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation’s a concern, find out what God would have you to do & let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups: extra car key in your wallet, house key in the garden, etc.

14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This can prevent enormous troubles.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough exercise.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.

21. Write thoughts and inspirations down.

22. Every day, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray…

24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.

26. Remember the shortest bridge between despair & hope is often "Thank u, God!"

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but yourself not at all.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be- kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33. Talk less; listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before. GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.

Alternative Medicine

Study: Alternative Med Use Also Popular Among Kids

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - While it is known that many adults treat their own illnesses with herbal medicine, prayer and other complementary and alternative therapies, new study findings show that many of them also use these remedies for their children.

The findings are based on random nationwide telephone surveys of 1,501 mothers, fathers and other primary caregivers of children and adolescents. Dr. Michael B. Aldous of the University of Arizona in Tucson and colleagues conducted the survey and analyzed the results.

Nearly one quarter (22%) of the parents used some type of alternative medicine for their child, and almost one in 10 allowed their child to visit a complementary and alternative medicine provider, such as a chiropractor, osteopathic physician or homeopath, study findings indicate.

Further, more than 80% of the parents were somewhat or very satisfied with their child's most recent use of complementary and alternative medicines and 86% of parents considered the therapies to be somewhat or very helpful.

Finally, 90% said they would be willing to use complementary and alternative medicines for their children in the future.

Only two-thirds of the parents, however, informed their child's physician about complementary and alternative medicine use.

Numerous studies have indicated that some alternative medicines may interact with prescription drugs, making it important for a person's doctor to know what types of alternative medicine he or she may be taking.

In fact, many researchers agree that more studies are needed to determine the health risks of various nontraditional therapies, to make sure that those risks do not outweigh their benefits.

Overall, the most common alternative medicines--used by 8% of the children and adolescents in the study--were vitamins other than multivitamins. Other popular therapies were herbal remedies, spiritual healing or prayer and various chiropractic therapies.

Use of these complementary and alternative medicines was twice as common among children with chronic illness than among their healthy peers. These therapies were most often used to treat respiratory illnesses other than asthma, strains and sprains, allergies, digestive problems and ear infections.

Twelve percent of the children also used alternative medicines as a method of disease prevention.

The findings were presented last week at the American Academy of Pediatrics' annual meeting in Boston.

ASK THE RABBI

ASK THE RABBI
by Rabbi Yossi Howidozit

Q: Is it permissible to take Viagra on the Sabbath?

A: There are two differing schools of thought on whether you can take Viagra on the Sabbath. Beit Shammai forbids the ingestion of Viagra on the Sabbath lest one violate the law that forbids erecting a structure (boneh) on the Sabbath. However, Beit Hillel does not read it as "boneh" but as "boner" and permits the ingestion of Viagra on the Sabbath. The ingestion of Viagra (known as "Yeshurun" or the straight one) is permitted before sundown as long as the Kabbalat Shabbat takes less than a half hour to complete, the kids are asleep and your wife doesn't have a headache.

Q: What bracha does one say before taking Viagra?

A: There is a choice of four blessings:

1) Borei p'ri ha-eitz - blessing over the fruit of the tree.

2) Boruch Atah Hashem zokeif k'fuffim - Staighten those who are bent.

3) Boruch Atah Hashem ya'aleh v'yovo - arise and come.

4) Boruch Atah Hashem Mechayei hameitim - raise the dead.

Teaching

All About Teaching – Collected & Edited by Professor Mitch Asinoff
Teachers Matter

You don't actually have to take the quiz. Just read straight through, and you'll get the point one.....

Take this quiz:
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman Trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor actress.

6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners. How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They’re the best in their fields.

But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel, appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

6. Name half a dozen heroes or scholars whose stories have inspired you. Easier?

The lesson: Those who make a difference in your life aren’t the ones with the most credentials, money, or awards. They are the ones that care.

Teachers’ Poem

Last night as I lay sleeping,
I died or so it seemed. Then I went to heaven, But only in my dream. Up there St. Peter met me, Standing at the pearly gates, He said, "I must check your record. Please stand right here and wait. "He turned to me and said, "Your record Is- covered with many terrible flaws. On earth I see you rallied. For-every losing cause. I see you drank alcohol, And smoked and used drugs too.

Fact is you've done everything A good person should never do. We can't have people like you up here Your-life was full of sin."Then he read the last of my record Took -my hand and said, "Come in." He -lead- me up to the big boss and said,"Take her in and treat her well. She used to work for the NYC Dept. of Ed. She's done her time in Hell."

Teachers V. Educators

A news report said a private school in Victoria, Australia recently faced a unique problem.

Girls put lipstick on in the bathroom & pressed their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of lip prints.

Every night, the custodian removed them and the next day, the girls put them back.

Finally the principal decided something had to be done: she, all the girls & custodian met in the bathroom.

She explained the lip prints were hard to clean every night. To demonstrate she asked him to clean them.

He took out a squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it.

Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

There are Teachers, and then there are Educators Teaching in the 21st Century

"Let me see if I have this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids & fill every
waking moment with a love for learning. I'm also to instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity,
modify disruptive behavior, observe- them for signs of abuse & T-shirt messages. I must fight the war on drugs & sexually-transmitted-diseases, check backpacks for guns & raise self-esteem. I'm to teach patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship, fair play, how & where to register to vote, balance a checkbook & apply for a job. "I’m to check their heads occasionally for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of potential anti-social behavior, offer advice, write letters of recommendation for student employment & scholarships, encourage respect for other cultures &, oh yeah, always make sure I give the girls in my class ½ my attention.

"My contract says I must work on my own time, summer & evenings at my expense toward advance certification & a master's degree; & after school, I’m to attend committee & faculty meetings & participate in staff development training to keep my job. "I’m to be a paragon of virtue larger than life, so that my very presence will awe students into being obedient & respect authority.

"I’m to pledge allegiance to supporting family values, a return to the basics, & to my current administration. I must incorporate technology in learning, & monitor all Web sites while providing a personal relationship with each student. "I’m to decide who might be potentially dangerous &/or liable to commit crimes in school or who is possibly being abused, & I can be jailed for not mentioning these suspicions." I have to make sure all students pass state & federally mandated tests & all classes, whether or not they attend school on a regular basis or complete any of the work assigned.

Plus, I am expected to ensure all students with handicaps are guaranteed a free & equal education, regardless of their mental or physical abilities. "I am to communicate frequently with each student's parent by letter, phone, newsletter, & grade card. I'm to do all of this with just a piece-of chalk, a computer, some books, a bulletin board, a 45 minute more-or-less plan time & a big smile, all on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps in many states. Is that all?" "And you want me to do all of this and expect me not to pray?"

SICK OF THOSE HIGHLY PAID TEACHERS

I, for one, am sick & tired of those highly paid teachers. Their hefty salaries are driving up taxes & only working nine months a year!

It's time we put things in perspective & pay them for what they do...baby-sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage.

That's right...I would give them $3.00 dollars an hour and only the hours they worked, not any of that silly planning time.

That would be 15 dollars a day.

Each parent should pay $15 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now, how many do they teach in a day....maybe-25.

Then that's 15 X 25=$375 a day.

But remember they only work 180 days a year!

I'm not going to pay for vacations.

Let's see...*that's 375 x180=$67,500.00

(Hold on, my calculator must need batteries!)

What about those special teachers or the ones with master's degrees?

Well, we could pay them minimum wage just to be fair. Let's round it off to $6.00 an hour.
That’d be $6 x 5 hours x 25 children times 180 days = $135,000.00 per year.

Wait a minute, there is something wrong here!!!

There sure is, duuh????!!

To me the sole hope of human salvation lies in teaching." ~ George Bernard Shaw ~

George Carlin

A Wonderful Message by George Carlin

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings & shorter tempers, wider freeways & narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses & smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees & less sense, more knowledge & less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink & smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh- too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions & reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorces, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom, a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it.

A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

A sobbing little girl

A sobbing little girl stood near a small church from which she'd been turned away because it "was too crowded." "I can't go to SundaySchool," she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by.

Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason &, taking her by the hand, took her inside & found a place for her in the Sunday school class. The child was so happy that they found room for her, that she went to bed that night thinking of the children who have no place to worship Jesus.

Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement buildings and the parents called for the kindhearted pastor, who befriended her, to handle the final arrangements. As her poor little body was being moved, a worn, crumpled purse was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump. Inside was 57 cents & a note scribbled in childish handwriting which read, "This is to help build the little church bigger so more children can go to Sunday -School. For two years she had saved for this offering of love.

When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he'd do. Carrying this note & the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love & devotion. The challenged his deacons to get busy & raise enough $ for the larger building. But the story does not end there! A newspaper learned of the story & published it. It was read by a Realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth thousands. When told that the church couldn't pay so much, he offered it for 57 cents.

Church members made large donations. Checks came from far & wide. Within five years the little girl's gift had increased to $250,000.00--a huge sum for that time (near the turn of the century). Her unselfish love had paid large dividend. When you're in the city of Philadelphia, look up Temple Baptist Church, with a seating capacity of 3,300 & Temple U., where hundreds of students are trained.

Have a look, too, at the Good Samaritan Hospital & at a Sunday -School building which houses hundreds of Sunday -Schoolers, so that no child in the area will ever need to be left outside during Sunday school time. In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the sweet face of the little girl whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history. Alongside it is a portrait of her kind, pastor, Dr. Russel H. Conwell, author of the book, "Acres of Diamonds"A true story, which goes to show WHAT GOD, CAN DO WITH 57 cents.

Please send this back.- You'll see why. St. Theresa Prayer (cannot bedeleted)REMEMBER to make a wish before you read the prayer. That's all youhave to do. There is nothing attached. This is a powerful novena. Just send this to four people and let me know what happens on the fourth day....Do not break this, please. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost but a lot of reward. (This is true) (Did you make a wish?) If you don't make a wish, it won't come true. Last Chance to wish. May today there be peace withinMay you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you’re meant to be....May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faithMay you use those gifts that you have received, & pass on the love that’s been given to you....May you be content knowing you are a child of God....Let this presence settle into our bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, It is there for all of you....Send -This to 7 People in the next 5 minutes & your wish will come true.

A NYC Teacher decided to honor her students

A NYC teacher decided to honor her h.s. seniors by telling them the difference they each made. She called each student to the front of the class, one at a time. First she told each how they made a difference to her and the class. Then she gave each of them a blue ribbon with gold letters. It read, "WHO I AM MAKES A DIFFERENCE"

Afterwards she decided to do a class project to see the kind of impact recognition has on a community. She gave each student three more ribbons and instructed them to go out and spread this acknowledgment ceremony. Then they would report the results to the class in about a week.

One boy honored a jr. executive in a nearby company for helping him with his career planning. Then, he gave the executive the extra ribbons and said, "We're doing a class project on recognition, and we'd like you to go out, find somebody to honor, give them a blue ribbon, then give them the extra blue ribbon so they can acknowledge a third person to keep this acknowledgment ceremony going. Then please report back to me and tell me what happened.

Later that day the jr. executive went in to see his boss, who was grouchy. He sat his boss down and he told him that he deeply admired him for being a creative genius. The boss seemed very surprised. The jr. executive asked him if he would accept a blue ribbon. His surprised boss said sure. So the jr. executive put it right on his boss's jacket above his heart. As he gave him the last extra ribbon, he said, "Would you do me a favor? Take this extra ribbon and pass it on by honoring somebody else. The young boy who gave me the ribbons is doing a project in school and we want to keep this recognition ceremony going and find out how it affects people.

That night the boss came home to his 14-year-old son and sat him down. He said, "The most incredible thing happened to me today. I was in my office and one of the jr. executives came in and told me he admired me and gave me a blue ribbon for being a creative genius. Imagine. He thinks I'm a creative genius. Then he put this blue ribbon that says 'Who I Am Makes A Difference' on my jacket above my heart. He gave me an extra ribbon and asked me to find somebody else to honor. As I was driving home tonight, I started thinking about whom I’d honor with this ribbon and I thought about you. I want to honor you. My days are really hectic and when I come home I don't pay much attention to you. Sometimes I scream at you for not getting good enough grades and your room being a mess, but somehow tonight, I just wanted to sit here and, well, just let you know that you do make a difference to me. Next to your mother, you are the most important person to me. You're a great kid and I love you!"

The startled boy started sobbing uncontrollably. His whole body shook. He looked up at his father and said through his tears, "I was planning on committing suicide tomorrow, Dad, because I didn't think you loved me. Now I know you do. This is the happiest day I've known. "The boss went back to work a changed man. He was no longer a grouch but made sure to let all his employees know that they made a difference. The jr. executive helped several other young people with career planning and never forgot to let them know that they made a difference it his life...one being the boss' son.

And the young boy and his classmates learned a valuable lesson. Who you are DOES make a difference. So just smile and know that someone thinks that you are important, or you wouldn't have received this in the first place. Remember that! Injustice Breeds Destruction (Justicia Es La Causa)!

A DIFFERENT CHRISTMAS POEM

A DIFFERENT CHRISTMAS POEM in honor of the 66th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor

LET US NEVER FORGET WHAT WE OWE THOSE WHO FREELY
LAY DOWN THEIR LIVES TO INSURE THAT WE AND OUR FAMILIES
CAN CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS IN THE WAY WE CHOOSE.

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,

Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near. Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old, Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!" For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts. To the window that danced with a warm fire's light. Then- he sighed and he said, "Its really all right, I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night." "It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times. No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me. My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,"Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."

My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ', And now it is my turn and so, here I am. I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile. Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red, white, and blue... an American flag. I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat. I can carry the weight of killing another, Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.

Who stand at the front against any and all
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.""So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright, Your family is waiting and I'll be all right.""But isn't there something I can do, at the least, "Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For- being away from your wife and your son. "Then his eye welled- a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget. To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone, To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead, To know you remember we fought and we bled. Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

PLEASE, would-you do me the kind favor of sending this to asmany people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some-credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able tocelebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

A Dad's Story

On July 22nd I was enroute to Washington, D.C. for a business trip. It was ordinary, until we landed in Denver to change planes. As I got my things, an announcement for me to see Customer Service immediately. I thought nothing of it until I was exiting the plane, & heard a man asking every man if he was me.

I knew something was wrong & my heart sunk. When I got off a solemn-faced young man came toward me & said, "There's an emergency at your home. I don't know what it is, but I'll take you to the phone so you can call the hospital."

My heart was now pounding, but the will to be calm took over. Woodenly, I followed this stranger to the distant phone & called the # he gave me for the Mission Hospital. My call was-transferred to the trauma center where I learned my 3-year-old son was trapped beneath the automatic garage door for several minutes, & when my wife found him he was dead. CPR was performed by a neighbor, who's a dr., & the paramedics continued treatment while in route to the hospital. By the time I called, Brian was revived & they felt he'd live, but- they didn't know if he had brain or heart damage. They explained that the door completely closed on his little sternum right over his heart. He was severely crushed.

After speaking with the medical staff, my wife sounded worried but not hysterical, & I took comfort in her calmness. The return flight seemed to last forever. Finally I arrived at the hospital six hours after the garage door came down. When I walked into the i.c.u. nothing could have prepared me to see my little son lying so still on a huge bed with tubes & monitors everywhere. He was on a respirator. I glanced at my wife who tried to give me a reassuring smile. It all seemed like a nightmare.

I was filled-in & given a guarded prognosis. He’d live. The preliminary tests indicated that his heart was OK, two miracles in & of themselves. But only time would tell if his brain was damaged. Throughout the seemingly endless hours, my wife was calm. She felt that Brian would eventually be o.k. I hung on to her words & faith like a lifeline. All that night & the next day Brian remained unconscious. It seemed like forever since I left for my business trip the day before. Finally at two PM, he awoke, sat up & uttered the most beautiful words I ever heard spoken: "Daddy, hold me" & he reached for me with his little arms. [TEAR BREAK...smile] By the next day he was pronounced as having no neurological or physical deficits, & the story of his miraculous survival spread throughout the hospital. We took Brian home.

And felt a unique reverence for the life & love of our Heavenly Father that comes to those who brush death so closely. In days ahead there was a special spirit about our home. Our 2 older kids were much closer to him. My wife & I were much closer to each other, & we were all a very close family. Life became less stressful, pace. Perspective seemed to be more focused, & balance much easier to gain & maintain. We felt deeply blessed. Our gratitude was truly profound. The story is not over (smile)!

Almost a month later to the day, Brian awoke from his afternoon nap & said, "Sit down, mommy. I have something to tell you." He usually spoke in small phrases. So the large sentence surprised my wife. She sat with him & he began a scary & remarkable story. "Do you remember when I got stuck under the garage door? Well, it was so heavy & it hurt really bad. I called to you, but you couldn't hear me. I started to cry, but then it hurt too bad. And then the 'birdies' came." "The birdies?" my wife asked puzzled. "Yes," he replied. "The birdies made a whooshing sound & flew into the garage. They took care of me." "They did?" "Yes," he said. "One of them came & got you. She came to tell you I got stuck under the door." A sweet reverent feeling filled the room. The spirit was so strong & yet lighter than air. My wife realized that a three-year-old had no concept of death & spirits. So he was referring to the beings who came to him from beyond as "birdies" because they were up in the air like birds that fly. "What did the birdies look like?" she asked. Brian answered, "They were so beautiful. They were dressed in white, all white. Some of them had green and white. But some of them had on just white." "Did they say anything?" "Yes," he answered. "They told me the baby would be all right." "The baby?" my wife asked confused. Brian answered. "The baby- laying on the garage floor." He went on, "You came out & opened the garage door & ran to the baby. You told the baby to stay & not leave."

My wife nearly collapsed upon hearing this because she knelt beside Brian's body, saw his crushed chest & whispered, "Don't leave us Brian, please- stay if you can." As she listened to Brian telling her the words she spoke, she realized his spirit left his body & was looking down from above on this little lifeless form. "Then what happened?" she asked…

"We went on a trip." he said, "Far, far away." He grew agitated trying to say the things he didn't seem to have the words for. My wife tried to calm & comfort him, & let him know it’d be okay. He struggled with wanting to tell something that obviously was very important to him, but finding the words was hard. "We flew so fast up in the air. They're so pretty, mommy," he added. "And there are lots & lots of birdies."

My wife was stunned. Into her mind the sweet comforting spirit enveloped her more soundly, but with an- urgency she never knew before. Brian also said the "birdies" told him that he had to come- back & tell everyone about the "birdies." He said they brought him back to the house & a big fire truck, & an ambulance were there. A man was bringing the baby out on a white bed & she tried to tell the man that the baby would be okay, but the man couldn't hear him. He said the birdies told him he had to go with the ambulance, but they would be near him. He said they were so pretty & peaceful he didn't want to come back. Then the bright light came. He said it was so bright & warm. He loved it so much. Someone was in the bright light & put their arms around him, & said, "I love u, but you have to go back. You have to play baseball, & tell everyone about the birdies. "Then the person in the bright light kissed him & waved bye-bye.

Then whoosh, the big sound came & they went into the clouds. The story went on for an hour. He taught us that "birdies" were always with us, but we don't see them because we look with our eyes & we don't hear them because we listen with our ears. But they’re always there, you can only see them in here (he put his hand over his heart). They whisper the things to help us to do what’s right because they love us so. Brian continued, stating, "I have a plan, mommy. You have a plan. Daddy has a plan. Everyone has a plan. We must all live our plan & keep our promises. The birdies help us do that cause they love us so much." In the following weeks he often came to us & told all, or part of it, again & again. It was always the same. The details were never changed or out of order. A few times he added bits of info & clarified the prior message. It never ceased to amaze us how he could tell such detail & speak beyond his ability when he talked about his birdies. Everywhere he went, he told strangers about the "birdies." Surprisingly, no one ever looked at him strangely when he did this. Rather, they always got a softened look on their face & smiled.

Needless to say, we've not been the same ever since then & I pray we never will be.

An Angel to Watch over You. Some people come & go quickly into our lives. Some become friends and stay a while...leaving beautiful footprints on our hearts...& we are never quite the same because we made a good friend!! Yesterday is history... Tomorrow a mystery... Today is a gift… That's why it's called the present! Live and savor every moment.....this is not a dress rehearsal!

Jefferson and banks

“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.

If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currencies,

first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around

(the banks) will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless

on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks

and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”

Thomas Jefferson, third president, Letter to Secretary of The Treasury, Albert Gallatin.

HOW LONG DOES THE USA HAVE?

This is one of the most interesting things I have read in a long time. The sad thing about it, you can kind of see it coming.

I have always heard about this democracy countdown. It is interesting to see it in print. God help us, not that we deserve it.How Long Do We Have?
About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

”A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It’ll continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

”The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During that time, those nations always progressed through the following sequence: 1. From bondage to spiritual faith; 2. From spiritual faith to great courage;3. From courage to liberty; 4. From liberty to abundance; 5. From abundance to complacency;6. From complacency to apathy; 7. From apathy to dependence; 8. From dependence back into bondage.”
”Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:Number of States won by: Gore: 19, Bush: 29.Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000, Bush: 2,427,000. Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million, Bush: 143 million. Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Gore: 13.2, Bush: 2.1.

Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country.
Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare...”

Olson believes the US is now somewhere between the 'complacency & apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some 40% of the nation's population already having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

If Congress grants amnesty & citizenship to 20 million criminal invaders called illegal & they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA as we know it, in perhaps as few as years. If you are in favor of this then delete it. If you are not then Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Marraige: she's boss? And swap our pants for a dress

"Marriage: Advice From A Maven (expert)" By Professor Mitch Asinoff = 6/26/09

I created some rules that will guarantee a happy marriage. They're my philosophy. And should be yours too, if you want a good marriage! To start off, these rules were designed for women. The reason is there are none for men, because we're superior in every way! All women should be required to swear allegiance to them along with their wedding vows. Then they should be framed & hung, to insure that they're seared into women's memories! They are entitled, "The Gospel of Marriage According to Mitch." There’s no doubt these rules are very effective. If all wives follow them religiously divorce will virtually disappear. And everyone will live happily ever after, just like in the movies! Sorry all you divorce lawyers. You can do prenuptial agreements

1: Men are bosses, not lumps of clay, or blank canvases to be transformed by your vision. Nor are we new shoes to be broken in, or a house to remodel. We are what we are! We belch, burp, fart, etc. Don’t try to trade our pants for a skirt or God will punish u.

2. We need time out with the boys. So don’t try to keep us on a leash.

3. If- a husband's nice enough to tell his wife he won't be home for dinner it's fine. She can’t ask where he's going. If she does he'll think she distrusts him. A good wife must always trust her husband completely if she wants him to be happy. If she doesn't do everything she can to please him he'll leave!

4: Men never do anything to cause a divorce. All marriage troubles are caused- by women, over one dumb thing or another. They MUST follow these rules to the letter! It's the only way a marriage will work. Total faith is required, from wives 24/7, if they expect to be happy. Women must remember how easy it is for a man to pack up & go. Women are like a bus at rush hour: if you miss the first another will be along in five minutes!

5: When the man comes home a good wife never asks where he's been, or with who. If she does he'll think she's insecure. No man will stay with a woman who’s so insecure. Who’d blame him for divorcing her?

6: A good wife must always keep her husband well fed. Regardless if there's not- enough for her. She can't be nearly as hungry as everyone knows that men work much harder than women!

7: A good wife always keeps her husband's clothes in perfect condition, no matter what. They must be washed, ironed, folded & hung. Wives who don't are lazy. No one would blame him for divorcing a lazy wife who doesn't even take care of his clothes!

8: A good wife keeps her husband's car clean at all times. If he doesn't have one she's obligated to get him one. Any sacrifice she makes to do so is her way of showing him she's a good wife.

9: Should she get herself pregnant, it's her responsibility to care for it, especially when he comes home after a hard of real work. Kids are annoying to a man when asking lots of questions, especially if he doesn't have the answers!

10: Good wives give husbands sex, no matter what, even if she's tired. She shouldn't be. Everyone knows housework isn't real work. So she can't have a bad day at work the way guys do!

11: Good wives never ask husbands for money because he works so hard for it. She's supposed to make due on whatever he gives her. That's one of her responsibilities!

12: Good wives stay size ten. Who'd blame a guy for leaving a woman that let- herself- go? That would be grounds- for a divorce & we all know she’d never get alimony because of it!

13: Last, but not least, good wives never tell their husbands any of their troubles. Everyone knows a woman does not have any compared to men's!

I never married. But that shows I'm smart. I'm still an expert and am guaranteed a good marriage if whoever my future wife is follows these rules!

Marriage should be classified between death and taxes. It's worse than taxes. But we'll never answer the question that's plagued mankind for eternity: is marriage worse than death? Yes, no, maybe? It is one of the great- mysteries of the universe. One that we are destined to always -ponder!

People often ask if I’m married. I reply I’m still taking applications. That’s why I’m happy.

Antioxidants

ANTIOXIDANT UPDATE

One of the most hotly debated topics in cancer currently is the question of whether antioxidants are capable of lessening the side effects & possibly improving the results of conventional cancer treatments. A recent article from the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) concluded that this is a "fertile field for future research." The NCI scientists feel, however, that "current knowledge makes it premature to generalize & make specific recommendations about antioxidant usage for those at high risk for cancer or undergoing treatment."

Premature, perhaps. Not all the possible interactions are yet fully understood. But today's patients need to make decisions today, not at some future date when consensus can finally be achieved. If you are going through chemotherapy or radiation, should you also take antioxidants? Or should you (as some oncologists advise) avoid all antioxidants, even dietary components normally found in many foods? I have heard of cancer patients who are essentially living on pretzels and water during chemo, in order to avoid "dangerous" antioxidant- rich fruits and vegetables.

Some years back the Lancet publicized the Precautionary Principle. This utilitarian rule advises scientists to make the best possible guesses in the field of public health, even when there is less than conclusive evidence. I would argue that the preponderance of evidence already suggests that antioxidants reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, without, however, interfering with their effectiveness.

Some recent findings support that position.

I have written in the past about the excellent results achieved by Dr. A. Pace & colleagues, who, by administering reasonable amounts of vitamin E to patients undergoing chemotherapy with cisplatin, succeeded in many cases in preventing the nerve damage that commonly accompanies treatment with this drug. In 7/03 another very interesting study was published on the combined use of vit. E & the drug pentoxifylline, a blood vessel dilator, in bringing about the regression of superficial radiation-induced fibrosis (RIF). (RIF is a relatively rare side effect of radiotherapy for which there is no good conventional treatment.) Like the Pace study, this was also a randomized, controlled trial, published in the orthodox Journal of Clinical Oncology. In other words, these are the kind of studies that should sway the minds of skeptical oncologists.

24 women, who together had 29 areas of RIF involving the skin & underlying tissues, were enrolled in this trial. These patients had previously received radiation for breast cancer. They were randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups: (A) pentoxifylline plus 1,000 units per day of Vitamin E; (B) pentoxifylline plus placebo (an inert pill); (C) placebo plus vitamin E; & (D) placebo-placebo. After six months, 22 patients with 27 RIF areas could be evaluated. The regression of fibrosis was significantly greater in the group using combined pentoxifylline & Vit. E than in the double placebo group. The speed of the regressions was also significantly faster in the combined treatment group.

The authors, at the Hopital Saint Louis, in Paris, France, concluded that six months' treatment of combined pentoxifylline and vitamin E "can significantly reduce superficial RIF. Synergism between PTX [pentoxifylline, ed.] & Vit. E is likely, as treatment with each drug alone is ineffective, but these results require confirmation in larger series."

True, this study concerned the use of antioxidants with a regular prescription drug given after radiation. I can't help wondering what the results would have been if the patients had been given vitamin E, with or without pentoxifylline, before and during radiation as well. Maybe RIF could actually have been prevented in the first place.

Another recent clinical study, this one published in the journal Anticancer Research, supports the use of the antioxidant hormone melatonin along with chemotherapy. Scientists randomized patients to receive the drug irinotecan (CPT-11) alone vs. irinotecan with melatonin in metastatic colorectal cancer patients whose cancer was already progressing on 5-fluorouracil-containing chemotherapy combinations."Recent advances in immunobiological knowledge," the investigators wrote, "have suggested the possibility of enhancing the therapeutic activity of various chemotherapeutic agents by a concomitant administration of anti-oxidant drugs and/or immunomodulating neurohormones" (for example, melatonin.) Melatonin is unusual in that it works both as an antioxidant and an immune modulator. This study evaluated the effect of administering melatonin alongside CPT-11, a drug widely used as second-line treatment in metastatic colorectal cancer.

Melatonin was given to such patients orally at 20 milligrams per day during the evening (when melatonin is most effective).

A partial response (PR) was achieved in 2 out of 16 patients (12.5%) treated with CPT-11 alone but in 5 out of 14 patients (35.7%) who were treated concomitantly with melatonin. Stable disease was obtained in 5 out of 16 patients (31.3%) treated with CPT-11 alone and in 7 out of 14 patients (50.0%) treated with CPT-11 plus melatonin. The degree of improvement was statistically significant. The Italian authors concluded that the effectiveness of CPT-11 may be enhanced by a daily administration of the pineal hormone and antioxidant melatonin. This accords with results that were previously reported for other chemotherapeutic agents.

If antioxidants truly interfered with radiation and chemotherapy, as some oncologists continue to maintain, then one would expect to see this interference showing up in clinical trials, such as those discussed above.

In truth, this doctrine of interference has always been based more on fear than fact. A growing body of clinical as well as laboratory data supports the concurrent use of these two important modalities. An added bonus is that antioxidants such as vitamin E and melatonin are readily available for just pennies per day. They promise a great deal of benefit for a very small price.

Making the First 10 Minutes of an Interview Count

Making the First 10 Minutes of an Interview Count
Seven Tips By The Creative Group

A hiring manager can often tell if you're the right fit for his or her organization just minutes after the two of you shake hands. In a recent Robert Half survey, executives polled said it typically takes them only 10 minutes to form an opinion of a candidate during an employment interview, despite meeting with staff-level applicants for nearly an hour, on average.
With such a short amount of time to interact with a hiring manager, how can you evoke a positive response? Projecting confidence and enthusiasm is key, so keep the following advice in mind:

1. Dress to impress. For better or worse, a good part of the impression an interviewer first forms of you depends on how you're dressed. So wear a nice suit or business-appropriate dress, even if you know the office to be a casual environment.

2. Remain calm. One of the best ways to make a good first impression is to quell any pre-interview jitters. Plan to arrive at the interview destination 10-15 minutes early. This gives u time to compose & relax a little.

3. Show some respect. Many hiring managers ask everyone who interacted with a candidate -- from administrative staff to members of their dep’t.-for feedback on the prospective employee. So be pleasant toward those you meet & avoid the urge to hold a loud cell phone discussion in the elevator or lobby.

4. Break the ice. Small talk plays an important role in the interview by helping to break the ice and put both parties at ease. If the hiring manager asks if traffic was heavy, or if you had problems finding your way to the office, offer more than just a "yes" or "no" answer. Just be sure not to prattle on.

5. Focus on the little things. The fact that employers form opinions of candidates so quickly places additional importance on the more subtle points of the interview, such as giving a firm handshake, maintaining eye contact and practicing good posture. Your nonverbal cues can say a lot about your personality and interest in the position. Crossing your arms, nodding hurriedly or making tense facial expressions can all send the wrong message.

6. Demonstrate your knowledge. Hiring managers often start interviews by asking job candidates some straightforward questions about their experience, knowledge of the company & ability to excel in the position. For example, "Can you tell me a little about yourself?" "What do u know about our firm?" & "Why do you want to work here?" are three common questions. Research the business beforehand so that when answering these types of queries, u can relate your responses to the firm's needs or priorities.

7. Remain positive. The executives surveyed said interviews take an average of 55 minutes for staff-level job candidates and 86 minutes for management-level applicants. Even if you fear you've already made a negative impression in the hiring manager's mind, stay positive and focus on what you can do during the rest of the meeting to convince the employer you're right for the job. Consider whether you're making any common nervous mistakes -- such as rushing your responses or not listening to the full questions -- and adjust your communications as necessary.

No matter how well you prepare for an interview, things may not always go as smoothly as you had hoped. Whether you become tongue-tied or are thrown a curveball question, roll with the punches. Keeping a positive attitude and remaining confident in your ability to land the job is one sure way to impress any hiring manager.

MARRIED LIFE

MARRIED LIFE - MAKES MY EYES TEAR UP, SUCH A HAPPY ENDING!

A couple had only been married for two weeks and the husband, although very much in love, couldn't wait to go out on the town and party with his old buddies.

So, he said to his new wife, "Honey, I'll be right back."

"Where are you going, Coochy Coo?" asked the wife.

"I'm going to the bar, Pretty Face," he answered. I'm going to have a beer."

The wife said, "You want a beer, my love?" She opened the door to the refrigerator and showed him 25 different kinds of beer, brands from 12 different countries: Germany, Holland, Japan, India, etc.

The husband didn't know what to do, and the only thing that he could think of saying was, "Yes, Lollipop... but at the bar… You know... they have frozen glasses... "

He didn't get to finish the sentence, because she interrupted, "You want a frozen glass, Puppy Face?" She took a huge beer mug out of the freezer, so frozen that she was getting chills just holding it.

The husband, looking a bit pale, said, "Yes, Tootsie Roll, but at the bar they have those hors d'oeuvres that are really delicious... I won't be long. I'll be right back I promise. OK?"

"You want hors d'oeuvres, Poochie Pooh?" She opened the oven and took out 5 dishes of different hors d'oeuvres: chicken wings, pigs in blankets, mushroom caps, and little quiches.

"But my-sweet, honey...at the-bar you- know there's swearing, dirty words and all that."

"You want dirty words, Cutie Pie? LISTEN UP, CHICKEN SHIT! SIT YOUR ASS DOWN,

SHUT THE HELL UP, DRINK YOUR BEER IN YOUR FROZEN MUG AND EAT YOUR HORS

D'OEUVRES BECAUSE YOUR MARRIED ASS ISN'T GOING TO A DAMNED BAR!

THAT SHIT IS OVER, GOT IT, JACKASS!?"

And....they lived happily ever after. Isn't that a sweet (TRUE & typical) story?

He tells all he’s happily married (because she told him he was & he better say so, or else).
She traded his pants for a dress on their first date. When dating, she- said jump & he did...
After marriage he asked how high.

Respect in the Classroom - A Critique

Respect in the Classroom - A Critique by Mitch Asinoff - Summer, 1999

I empathize with Professor Midobuche for her suffering and applaud her for overcoming her persecution. It was not easy, but she did it. I hope that her classmates were able to overcome it as well as her. My friend Rabbi Kay, an English Professor said something I'll never forget: "The right teacher is the difference between learning and not learning."

Professor Midobuche is a prime example of that. As a child, she had to endure a racist persecutor teacher just because she was Mexican. A teacher should be a protector who accepts, supports, encourages and nurtures children so they can become all they can be.

It isn't easy being a teacher. Unfortunately, too many children come from broken homes, are unwanted and unloved. This leads to many joining gangs as a means of attaining the sense of belonging and acceptance they desperately need. If a teacher is lucky they can touch the life of a student and save them in the same way as Midobuche. I was very fortunate: one of my G.E.D. students told me "You touched my soul. My sister is a teacher. But she could not teach me. You're the first teacher to really help me." I simply went over it as many times as he needed to understand and praised him every problem he got right.

As for that teacher, it's unclear what motivated her to be so anti-Mexican. Perhaps she was perpetuating something she was taught. Maybe she, or a loved one was hurt by a Mexican. We can only guess what fueled her hatred. She used her students as a "whipping-board" as they were easy targets to spew her hatred at because they could not fight back.

We know the teacher did not agree with the United States Constitution. In the preamble it says, "All men are created equal. And endowed by God with inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." She also would like to change the Statue of Liberty's modo to say, "No Vacancy"! I would like to know where her family originated from. Then I would ask her where she would be if they were not welcomed here. And how she would feel if she, or her children were subjected to the same treatment she gives her students.

As for Professor Midobuche, she needs talk therapy to help heal her wounded inner child. It is not easy but she must find closure. That is a buzz word used in psychology. St. Francis described it as "...the peace to accept the things you cannot change." It might help to find out what triggered her teacher. My friend Frank Smith who holds a masters degree in psychology says, "Psychology merely explains things. It doesn't change them." He's right, but fails to recognize that is only the first piece of the solution. And that in turn it will help her to find the forgiveness she needs to release her from her past. If the teacher is available she could be tracked down and asked the why's? If she isn't the professor should vent by writing a letter, or using a stuffed animal as a prop, or just talk to an empty chair. The goal is to purge it all. I believe that God answered her prayers by "leveling-the-playing-field" for her with compassionate, accepting teachers who helped her become a college professor.

Teachers should encourage an appreciation of multiculturism. But the emphasis should be on "Acquiring Americanism". For this is a melting pot. Many opportunists and demagogues such as David Duke, Pat Buchanan, Michael Levin, Reverends Sharpton, Jackson and Farakkan to divide this great nation by manipulating and exploiting the bonds that unite us all as Americans. People should appreciate our differences and not let class-envy feed hatred. Reverends Jackson and Sharpton try to use our differences to divide us. The Pledge of Allegiance says, "One nation under God..." That premise is being undermined by well-meaning, but misguided people who are obsessed with taking God out of school. How easily they forget that He created multiculturalism. Like it or not the purpose of war is victory and the history books are written by the winners.

My friend and former history professor said something interesting on the subject: "All that matters is whether you or lose. When the dust settles few care how you 'played-the-game'. History will portray either as a winner or a loser. It will not say how you played the game. To the victor goes the spoils. In war many losers surrender unconditionally. This applies to all aspects of life: in sports the winning coach wants to discuss the score. But the losing coach doesn't. He wants to talk about 'heart' and 'next year'." Unfortunately, society thinks that way. Olympic Gold winners are bombarded with multi-million dollar offers. Who pays a loser to promote their product?

Upon deep reflection I see that we must first return to the days of yesteryear when we transformed ourselves from 13 Colonies into the United States of America! We were founded as a nation of immigrants, a melting pot where all can come in pursuit of the American dream. We must not let a few Liberals change history with their ideas of revisionism.

When slavery was abolished Booker T. Washington became a college professor. He rose to dine at the White House with President Cleveland. And did it without berating any one! We must never forget the simple philosophy that made us what we are: united we stand, divided we fall!

In his inaugural address on January 21, 1985 R. Reagan said something we must remember if we are going to survive as a nation: "When George Washington was sworn in as the first president of our great nation some two centuries ago he placed his hand upon the Bible standing less than a days journey by horseback from raw, untamed wilderness. There were four million Americans in a union of 13 Colonies. Since then we've pioneered and revolutionized the world with inventions like the train, car and plane, and journeyed to the moon. We stood together as a nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all! Many feel we need to look back for glory and greatness, but present day America need not. There are still many mountains to climb.

"We must never become a nation that needs to look back for glory. It's time to renew our faith, strive forward and continue being the greatest nation in the free world. We defeated the evil empire and are now the greatest nation on earth. There is no limit to what we can do in the next 200 years. But first we must stop slipping and sliding into third worldism and regain the values that made us this great nation. This is not the time to rest, we can meet the challenges and create a future worthy of our past. But we cannot do it alone, we need God as our copilot and Commander-In-Chief to help guide us in making the hardest, most demanding and rewarding decisions we will be called upon to make in life, the choice is ours!"
